HENLEY CHOCOLATES COMES TO YEW TREE FARM

We have welcomed some new shops to the Craft Centre, which we are sure you will love.

A chocoholics dream …..

The first shop we would like to introduce to you is Henley Chocolates.

Founder Sally Daniel is a familiar face at the Farm and we are very happy she is part of our family.  Sally and her husband started making chocolate four years ago on their kitchen table.  The business soon proved to be successful and expanded to take over two floors of their home.  Most weekends have been spent out and about at various market stalls.  However, the dream has always been to have a shop where they can welcome people to see how chocolates are made and for them to experience the joy of making chocolates for themselves.  Wootton Wawen is Sally’s home village, so when an opportunity arose, it was time to make the dream a reality.

Their shop incorporates a workshop where all the products are made by hand. Sally holds birthday parties, chocolate making workshops for all ages and abilities and also daily onsite Make your Own Chocolates (no booking necessary).

Chocolate pizzas, lollipops and truffles are among the delicious items you can make.

YEW TREE GOES TO CHELSEA FLOWER SHOW

Some of us were lucky enough to go to the Chelsea Flower Show on Press Day

We went to support Garden Furniture Centre on their impressive stand.  They have being going to Chelsea for a few years now and year on year their stand has become more impressive.  This year Claire from Flowers on the Green, our florist here at Yew Tree provided a stunning floral artwork of a union jack and red telephone box on the rear wall of the stand, along with other floral displays dotted around.  We understand that it has been getting a lot of positive public attention and for good reason ..

Something else which was proving popular and gaining a lot of attention was Alfie, the union jack cooler.  Not only did he make it into the national press, along with Debbie, but he was seen with our friend Dave, a Chelsea Pensioner.  That bull certainly gets around!

Another highlight of the day was visiting the The Meningitis Now Futures Garden which was in the Artisan Gardens section of the show

One of the charities we raised money for from this year’s Bluebell Walk was Meningitis Now and it was very moving to see the garden and also some of the people affected by this terrible disease. The sculptures made of the five people whose lives were irrevocably changed by this disease were amazing.  It may be too late to visit Chelsea to see this garden first hand, but please visit the RHS web page and also Meningitis Now website to discover more about this worthwhile charity.

Record Breaking Bluebell Walk in 2016 …

This years Bluebell walk was exceptionally well supported thanks to Social Media …

The grand total after expenses was in excess of £36,000,00 which has far exceeded any Bluebell Walk in the past.

This amount will be equally split between Molly Olly’s Wishes and Meningitis Now. The weather conditions on Sunday were good but on the Bank Holiday Monday the rain came down making walking conditions in the Bluebell Woods a little difficult, but this did not seem to put anyone off and the Bluebells still looked stunning.

Visitors then enjoyed looking round the shopping village and partaking in a hog roast or some tasty treats from the Farmshop and Cowshed Eaterie.

Bluebell Walk visitors enjoyed visiting the Farm Shop and Cowshed Cafe

A big thank you to everyone who turned out to support our charity walk and to friends and family who volunteered to give up their time to help man this ever growing event.

Apologies to local residents who got caught up in the traffic jams around the farm and for some obscure parking around the village.

The Bluebell Walk next year may take a different format so we do not have so many people turn up in a short space of time to avoid any traffic chaos and to give visitors a more peacefull walk around the woods.

BBC ANTIQUES ROAD TRIP VISIT THE ANTIQUES SHOP

It’s Lights, Camera, Action at the Antiques Shop

There’s been a buzz about the shopping village this week following a visit from the BBC Antiques Road Trip team.  The Antiques Shop welcomed Philip Serrell from the show and an interesting few hours of filming followed.  Philip was dropped off by Catherine Southon,  another presenter from the show, in a vintage left hand drive Citroen DS and while she went off in search of bargains elsewhere, Philip searched through the many interesting items in the Antiques Shop.  He was impressed  enough (and thought he could make a big enough profit) to buy a couple of items. You’ll have to watch the programme, which is to be broadcast in the autumn, to find out what he bought!

A delicious lunch in the Cowshed Eaterie followed for our two Phil’s at the Antiques Shop, the two presenters and the 7 crew.  There was more filming in the afternoon , then after some warming cups of coffee from the Farm Shop and armed with some Honeycomb Crunch  (again from the Farm Shop) some cake from the Cowshed  for the journey home the crew left and the day was over.

We hope the crew enjoyed their visit to Yew Tree Farm and we would love it if they returned in future.
