It’s Lights, Camera, Action at the Antiques Shop

There’s been a buzz about the shopping village this week following a visit from the BBC Antiques Road Trip team.  The Antiques Shop welcomed Philip Serrell from the show and an interesting few hours of filming followed.  Philip was dropped off by Catherine Southon,  another presenter from the show, in a vintage left hand drive Citroen DS and while she went off in search of bargains elsewhere, Philip searched through the many interesting items in the Antiques Shop.  He was impressed  enough (and thought he could make a big enough profit) to buy a couple of items. You’ll have to watch the programme, which is to be broadcast in the autumn, to find out what he bought!

A delicious lunch in the Cowshed Eaterie followed for our two Phil’s at the Antiques Shop, the two presenters and the 7 crew.  There was more filming in the afternoon , then after some warming cups of coffee from the Farm Shop and armed with some Honeycomb Crunch  (again from the Farm Shop) some cake from the Cowshed  for the journey home the crew left and the day was over.

We hope the crew enjoyed their visit to Yew Tree Farm and we would love it if they returned in future.

We would like to introduce you to our newest member of the Yew Tree Farm family, Claire Hammond of Flowers on the Green.  Claire had a Saturday job in a florists when she was a schoolgirl, but didn’t pursue floristry as a career, instead she attended Leeds Metropolitan University and studied public relations and worked for the National Grid as part of her degree.  It wasn’t until Claire, her husband and children moved to Claverdon that she got involved with flowers again.  She helped out with the community shop in Claverdon and they decided to stock flowers.  Having worked with flowers previously Claire volunteered to look after them.  Deciding that she wanted to step outside the corporate world work wise, Claire embarked on part time studies for City and Guilds Level 2 in floristry at Moreton Morrell and started work at a Warwick Florists.  Having a flair for floristry and with things going well, she decided to do Level 3 and moved onto a flower company in Coventry.  The next step was Level 4 and the opportunity to compete at the RHS Tatton Flower Show, where the Moreton Morrell team won a silver medal. Roll forward to November 2015 and Claire is now a gold medal winner having won the Floristry gold medal at the WorldSkills UK Skills Competition Finals, after coming first in the regional floristry heats held earlier in 2015.  She tells us it was an intense and nerve-racking experience, but the outcome more than makes up for the stress in the build up and during the competition.  Not content with this, Claire shares with us that she would love to compete at the Chelsea Flower Show …. watch this space!
